Perhaps it's time the citizens take it out of city councils hands, and vote by referendum to sell the city grid to an outside entity. It's too late to get it on the May ballot, but come November the citizens of Galion can have their voices and wishes heard.

Comment on A “Year of Work” Begins by galiongirl

Yes the airport can be sold, but I don't know who would want to buy it. Then you have to factor in all the Federal money that Galion has accepted from the FAA, that money would have to be paid back. That bill alone runs into the millions.

Comment on A “Year of Work” Begins by Russell Henkel

Can we sell the airport, will the feds let us do that?,then let the flyboys who can afford an airplane take care it. yes or no

Comment on Utility Rate Increases Enacted by Council by Nichole

I can't even begin to explain my outrage over the latest increases!!! My husband and I have two small children who we are desperately trying to provide at least a good meal everyday!!! However, with my most recent electric bill of $530, It will take a miracle to happen!!! No, that isn't a misprint, my bill for one month was $530!! I don't live in a mansion by any means! My husband has a great job, or so I thought, until buying a house in this joke of a town. I would give anything at this point to be able to sell my house and leave this town for good, but who in there right mind would buy a house in Galion! At this point I'm wondering if it would really be that bad to live without electric!!! People used to do it, right! Galion does not deserve my families hard earned money, not that I even have enough to pay them! To every resident of galion, we need to figure out something we can all do! I refuse to lose my house and go into debt, just to attempt to pay my electric bill!!

Ten Days

From my perspective, the last ten days have certainly been interesting ones. Here’s just a bit of what I have seen and heard over that time.

Leading the list on anyone’s list of observations over that period, and certainly my own, would be the amazing transformation in the weather.

My 1st. Letter To the Editor: Considered "Too Controversial To Be Printed"

I have always been amazed at the waste of talent & facilities characteristic of a community governed by the "what's in it for me ($)?" philosophy. Our youth especially have been crying for the appearance of a community heartbeat, a sense of vitality that would complement the recent successes in sports.

I propose, for example, that aspiring musicians be given the opportunity to participate in weekly warm - weather park concerts: a "battle of the bands" situation where they could gaug… Continue

Gledhill Road Machinery: Galion's Newest Plant In 1931

E.C. Gledhill's ambition to establish a road machinery plant in his hometown came from 25 years of experience designing & selling products for others. His dream was fulfilled on December 20th.,1930 when the new company was incorporated. E.C. Gledhill served as the President & General Manager & W.V. Goshorn acted as the Secretary-Treasurer. The Road-Adjuster was already a successful product for them (manufactured at another facility in Crestline), soon to be joined by other designs fr… Continue

Eating Match Results In Death of Owen Davis

The Galion Daily Leader of June 12th.,1895 carried an account of the death of Owen Davis,a 55 year old veteran who was involved in an eating contest in Noblesville, Indiana. A group of ex-soldiers decided to find out how much canned corn they could eat: Owen died "in terrible agony" at his home as a result of the contest. Readers were told that "the rest of the party were saved by the timely arrival of a physician." Now that's boredom!

Shameful Conduct Of Local Democrats Mars President Harrison's Speech In Galion

A Galion correspondent known as "Indignant Citizen" submitted a "highly colored" letter to the editor of the Cleveland Leader, which was printed (10/20/1890). The Inquirer reprinted the letter & presented a rebuttal 4 days later. Readers were told that the author's regard for truth & veracity was of "a very narrow character."

The account began with the statement that our town's citizens were the only ones that had ever intentionally insulted the President. Harrison' party arriv… Continue

I agree, and hope Galion has great weather for what will be a long standing tradition for the families and kids of the greater Galion area.

As you can imagine, this is an event which is rather tied to the holiday weekend, making it difficult to do a rain/snow date. That shared, we are obviously hoping for wonderful weather. The Middle School lot is certainly an ideal place to hold this…
