I just got my city bill (the electric bill) and this can not be right.

1st off the reading is “actual” according to my bill – I thought they quit estimating the bill because of so many complaints.

2nd the rate is $.0845 per KWH? My mother-in-law pays $.0501 per KWH with AEP. What service do we get that is so much better than what they get – why is there such a drastic difference?

3rd what is the KWH-TAX $9.46 + CUSTOMER CHG $5.50 for? Come on this is out right theft and should be treated as such! What is the customer charge for? I know if you go up and ask at the electric office they can not tell you what it is for.

4th ELEC RATE STABILIZATION (RATE .08) –Isn’t our electric stable? What is this fee funding? Is this the Bill Bauer fee that was suppose to be removed after 5 years?

5th ELEC POWER COST ADJ. (RATE .020000) – Can anyone explain this? I call it smoke and mirrors but what the city calls it is cost adjustment – so we are not actually paying $.0845 per KWH we are paying $.1045 per KWH? If you do the math it is correct we are paying $.1045 per KWH.

Just electric my bill for the month is $242.15 this is insane! There is no reason the city of Galion should be RAPING us like they are! May be it is time to get a generator and be removed from the city’s criminal empire they call the electric company! At least give me the freedom to choose who I buy my electric from!

Go figure my water and sewer usage was “6” so I was charged $39.31 for water and $42.34 for sewer. I got my bill from 2005 out and my water usage was “6” and I was charged $26.66 for water and 28.33 for sewer – can you say inflation boys and girls? My wages did not increase 12% in the last 5 years. Storm sewer $5.00 today $3.00 in 2005 – I have yet to see any improvements in the way the rain water drains into the storm sewer – where is all that money now?

Well I feel violated now – oh if you didn’t do the math my city bill for the month of February is $328.80.

GG I was counting the other fees and taxes separately - I get so degusted, discouraged and disgruntled (trying to think of some more “D” words) every time I see the city bill. Yes I think Galion should sell the electric department.

What I would like to know and I’m sure most Galion would like to know is a true and legitimate answer to the exorbitant and excessive fees.
Lisa, you can put up a solar panel for around $200.00 AND CUT YOUR ELECTRIC BILL BY 80%, just remember who the thiefs and liars are come election time and for Gods sake vote for an independant !!! The lessor of two evils still equates to evil. Gunner ; ))
Lisa, the last time I was in Galion I couldn't believe all the empty homes ??? G.
Whats the deal on solar panels? where can you get them what is the setup, use all panels only a few?whas the deal, are they sold locally. do you have to have a city permit? my electric bill yesterday was .126 per kwh. water and sewer went up,they said they were going to freeze rates, maybe they were saying at the end of the year. its tough to get a straight answer out of them, they will not spell it out. i think this the plan, they have 4 million in electric fund. as of janurary council meeting, dont know about now, like to know where they bury this money, anybody seen any shallow graves around town.
LOL, Russ. I would just search "solor panels" on Bing or Yahoo, etc, whichever search engine you use. There should be at least a weeks worth of research and info on them there. Maybe look at one of the "tips on energy savings" , etc. too. this is just too much!!
IF I BUY WONDER IF I CAN PUT THEM UP WITHOUT A BUILDING PERMIT,IT IS MY ROOF.
i'm sure that's another can of worms all together...!!! Good thinking ...Please keep us informed. I love all this "collective" thinking, it's the best!
If you want to open this can of worms have the ACLU INVESTIGATE !!! Also have the PUCO look into it . Gunner. ; )
Craig Smith's RV Center has a free catalog (very informative) that lists many solar panel arrays, which are available locally. Solar panels are not generally noted as high amperage suppliers of electricity, & require banks of batteries to store their trickle charge & an inverter to produce A.C. The small panels used to keep your car battery up provide 12 volts D.C. at around 1.5 amps., for maybe $ 20 or so..A 30 amp., 220 volt dryer or 50 amp. range would present an expensive challenge to a solar panel. Lighting loads are far more receptive to solar panels.
I love the idea of solar panels but what I'm after is an explanation of all the fees and why the cost per kilowatt hour is so high in comparison to the surrounding communities.

If the city council is ever wants Galion to enter into a competitive market for future businesses then they better start taking a very hard look at the reasons why no business wants to come here. From my stand point there are several driving factors with the number 1 being the utilities and number 2 (from an outsider looking in) the mismanagement of the city. Take the finance directors’ position for example: I did not know the previous director came from the company that we purchase our electric from (AMP Ohio) as I’m sure the same goes for most of the other residents in Galion they didn’t either. He abruptly leaves Galion to return to AMP Ohio – regardless of what actually took place it sure appears very fishy and may even constitute a proper investigation from a 3rd party with no affiliations to either Galion, AMP Ohio or the former director.

What about the properties that is vacant at the 61, 598 and 30 exchanges there has to be something very wrong if a gas station hasn’t popped up in at least 1 of those properties yet. (If I leave a 4 lane highway for gas I do not want to drive a mile any direction for it I want it right at the exit so I can get back on and go about my business)

Another driving factor may be our school system – from an outsider looking in once again it appears that the BoE makes decisions regardless of the wishes of the people who elected them to the position. There still a lot of bitter residents that disagreed with tearing the old schools down. I do understand what the BoE’s was thinking is that they did not want to see another East school left to rot but it did sound like there were potential investors willing to do something with the old building(s), I do not know this for sure so I will stop there.

I know I noted a lot of negative aspects of Galion today but not talking about them does not make them go away.
When you talk to outsiders about Galion they comment about how our Utilities are. That is sad Galion is known for that.
You are right Scott alot of negative today but you are also right about not talking about them. That is what the council wants you to do.
When you open your city bill every month how can you not be negative? It is disheartening.
