Based on our story yesterday and that of the T-F this morning, Galion Schools are likely to lose over $1 million in funding over the next two years. What do you think about the possibility of combining Crawford County's 6 school districts into 1, with a single Superintendent and staff? The idea would retain individual high schools but allow for economies of scale. Would you support such a move?

Thomas this is common sense.

Worthington has twice as many students than all the students combined in Crawford County with just one supeintendent, one asst superintendent.

The High Schools have their seperate identity and just like Galion and all the schools in Crawford County play in the same sports league.

Two thumbs up and start the planning now.

IT IS A VERY GOOD IDEA,WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG TO THINK OF IT,OF COURSE IF THEY SAVE TOO MUCH MONEY WE WILL HAVE TO HAVE THAT BUS GARAGE AND ANY MORE BRIGHT IDEAS THEY COME UP WITH IN THE MEANTIME.

Crestline has less than 800 total students.

Buckeye Central less than 800 students

Col Crawford less than 1000

Wynford less than 1,100

I don't believe each school needs a superintendent. That money could get about 3 teachers instead.

Galion has only one superintendent, no assistant. This shows the central office staff at Worthington Schools.  http://www.worthington.k12.oh.us/key_contacts.php  This list does not include building principals as Galion's administrative tab shows.

Currently of the over 600 school districts in Ohio, only Rittman and Orville share a superintendent.

You have got to be kidding. You're serious with your post? Of cousrse buildings are going to have principals, nobody is suggesting they dont.

Nobody is suggesting shared superintendents either.

The question posed is should Crawford County have one combined school district.

You sit on the board of education, one would think you can read and comprehend questions.

School districts begin to consolidate and share service.

Not in Galion, lets layoff teachers and then give the administrator raises.

Anthony, I am serious, I did not explain myself well enough I guess as I was responding to your post, not the original question.  I thought if someone would click on the link I left and counted the 17 persons that are the central office staff of Worthington schools (no building principles included) and then go to Galion's site for administration.  (Galion included the 4 building principles in that count).  I just thought I would attempt to help if someone actually did some research on the issue.

Worthington Schools have 9,400 students. One superintendent, one central office for all the schools.

Do you see the difference ?

This study is from Indiana and the consolidation taking place there

It starts on page 8.

200 + districts in Ohio targeted for consolidation.

Galion can remain alone, if the taxpayers are willing to double the taxes, and then expect even further reductions in state funding.

Cuyahoga Falls and Woodbridge to team up.

They get the message coming out of Columbus.
