Galion Community Hospital and Galion Police will collaborate for a drug "take away day." The hospital will be one of the designated drop-off points for expired or unused drugs. The purpose is to provide a safe, legal and environmentally friendly way for patients to dispose of unwanted medications. Detailed info is pending. Anthony, I thought you'd want to know since this was your idea during the discussion on drug-testing in the schools. Though this appears to be a one-time deal, I applaud those that got it going. Maybe there will be more?

Permalink Reply by KeithR on August 31, 2010 at 12:16pm I do applaud Dr. Novack in this endeavour but only having this event once a year, simply is not good enough.
A person that picks up a prescription for vicodin or percocets or what ever on September 26 should not have to hold on to the excess RX and should be able to easily and safely dispose of them at any time to get them out of the house if they want to.
Other communities have shown the way how it's done, we are not inventing the wheel here.

Permalink Reply by Anthony on August 31, 2010 at 12:30pm Two quick thoughts.
First, when I dispose of medication, which I have before, I simply throw them away with the trash -- as do 99% of people, I would imagine. I am not aware of a black market of people digging through garbage bags to find half-full bottles of Vicodin and Percocet.
Second, again, Anthony, it bears pointing out that you should not use the pronoun "we." You do not live here, and do not choose to be part of this community. That doesn't mean that you cannot have a valid opinion, of course, but it does mean that you should not cattily criticize ("..simply is not good enough) without yourself volunteering to be part of the solution.
