Saint Joseph's steeple was used as a test site for the fire department: they would practice pumping streams of water over the structure. The structure was bobbed in later years.

Saw an article about another interesting Galion resident, Lauretta Schimmoler. She was born at Fort Jennings Ohio in 1900,& lived near Bucyrus.She graduated from Bliss College in Columbus, & served as a court stenographer for the county, & later as a public stenographer. Lauretta worked part time at a hatchery, & later specialized in Leghorn chickens (with her own business, Riverview Leghorn Farm). I saw a post earlier today on Facebook regarding the Heise Park pool. I checked my archives, then spent an hour trying to find the post in order to respond, without success. Anyhow, here's the information I had on hand.
